Intermediate wiki skills learning challenge

There are three steps in this learning challenge:

  1. Publish a wiki page demonstrating your ability to implement the specified wiki skills
  2. Publish a personal blog post which:
    • Links to your wiki page above.
    • Contains a self-assessment of your wiki page using the traffic light rubric below.
  3. Submit a link to your blog post on Moodle to request review of your outputs.
    • Successful completion of this learning challenge is one of the requirements for obtaining the Course Developer badge. You must achieve a minimum of orange or green to succeed in this learning challenge.

Step 1: Publish learning content on a wiki page

  1. Design and publish a wiki page that you can re-use within the learning pathway you are planning to develop for this Empowered Digital Teacher for Online Learning (EDT4OL) course. You can skim through pages on this course site for ideas on layout and pedagogical features you might want to include on your page.
  2. Your wiki page should be linked as a sub-page from your personal Sandbox. Insert the following markup to create a sub-page for your wiki skills challenge (if you don’t already have a sub-page for this challenge): [[/Intermediate_wiki_skills_challenge/|Intermediate wiki skills challenge]]
  3. Your wiki page must contain all of the following elements:
    • Properly formatted text demonstrating correct semantic markup, for example, headings should use the wiki markup for headings rather than bold to signify headings.
    • An openly licensed image with complete metadata on the wiki image page adhering to legal requirements for copyright. (This can be an image your found online, a personal photograph or image inserted using the InstantCommons).
    • A custom licensed image with complete metadata on the wiki image page adhering to legal requirements for copyright. (This can be an image your found on Pixabay, Pexels or Unsplash).
    • At least one pedagogical template using the ‘line’ theme without syntax errors
    • At least one wiki table with no more than three columns.
    • At least two different types of wiki-based, interactive quiz items with feedback. You can select from a cloze, true-false or multiple choice question.
    • At least one hyperlinked footnote or reference using the <ref></ref> tags feature and <references/> invocation at the bottom of the wiki page.
    • A transclusion of the text from the following wiki page: https://wikieducator.org/EDT4OL/Links/wiki_skills_challenge_transclusion

Step 2: Publish blog reflection

Under this step, you must conduct a self-assessment of your wiki page then publish a personal blog post for this challenge.

Self assessment

Conduct a self assessment of your wiki page using the traffic light rubric below to evaluate if your resource achieves a green or amber rating below. If amber, consider improving your resource to achieve a green rating.

A ‘green’ or ‘amber’ rating, as conducted by your course moderator, will count towards the requirements for achieving the Course Developer badge. However, a ‘red’ rating will disqualify you from achieving the Course Developer badge.

One or more of the following is evident / missing in the draft:

  • More than two of the required elements missing on the wiki page
  • Wiki markup errors in more than two of the required elements
  • Unprofessional layout with inconsistent markup and/or difficult to read.
  • In its current state, the resource is not likely to add value to the learning experience, taking context into account.
  • Breach of copyright (eg incorrect attribution, incorrect or missing licensing information, or missing or incorrect URL for the source image to verify licensing information.)

Prepare personal blog post

  1. Choose a suitable title for your blog post for inclusion in your course portfolio
  2. Prepare a blog post of 100 to 250 words which:
    • Contains a sentence introducing your resource (Purpose and context of your wiki page)
    • Contains a hyperlink to your wiki page (check that your hyperlink points to the correct page.)
    • A summary of your self-assessment justifying your decision for a ‘green’ or ‘amber’ self-evaluation using the traffic light rubric above.
    • Remember to apply the “EDT4OL” tag to your blog post for harvesting by the course feed. (Visit our help page for more information on assigning your blog URL for the feed scanner.)
    • Optional: Scan the course feed page for recent blog posts, forum posts or mastodon toots and respond to one or two submissions. Providing motivation and support builds community!

Step 3: Prepare for assessment on Moodle

Your Intermediate wiki skills blog post will be submitted on Moodle as part of the Authoring a learning sequence challenge later in the course. See the Course developer badge page for instructions for submission.
