Dr. Deepak Prasad is born and bred in Fiji and very proud of his Pacific Islander heritage ā€” describing himself as a “Boy of the Isles”. He is currently the Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching Enhancement at the Fiji National University. Deepak has developed and taught online courses for over 10 years. In addition, he has developed and conducted workshops and trainings in a range of contexts and content areas such as learning design, open education, copyright, and student success. His research interests revolve around the application of frugal technologies to support learning and teaching in developing contexts.

Deepak is passionate about the professional development of teachers in the Pacific region and is the founder of the Wisdom Community of Pasifika Teachers; and has played a leading role in the formation of the Technology Enabled Learning Community of Practice. He is deeply invested in the notion that, whenever possible, teachers should endeavour to work together to promote their professional growth.

Deepak has been an active advocate of open educational resources in the Pacific region and held the inaugural position of Open Education Programme Architect at the University of the South Pacific. Currently, he is heading the review of Fijiā€™s policy on open educational resources. Deepakā€™s qualifications include a PhD in open education, Master of Educational Technology, Master of Intellectual Property Law, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Technology, and Diploma in Teacher Training.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and outdoor activities, especially boating and fishing. He’s also a beer lover!
