The corresponding text for each of the footnote numbers can be inserted at the bottom of the wiki page.\n<\/p>\n<p>This is a useful feature to enable you to include links to citation references and additional background information.\n<\/p>\n<p>When using this feature, Mediawiki will automatically insert the superscript numbers with hyperlinks to the relevant footnote text inserted at the bottom of the wiki page.\n<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"How_to_add_footnotes_or_references\">How to add footnotes or references<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This is a three step process.\n<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"Step_1\">Step 1<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Insert the opening and closing reference tags after the word in the body text where you would like the superscript reference number to appear. For example:\n<\/p>\n<table class=\"oeru1 table table-striped\" width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<dl>\n<dd><code>&lt;ref&gt;&lt;\/ref&gt;<\/code>\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<ul>\n<li> Note, the closing &lt;\/ref&gt; tag is prefaced with a forward slash (&#8220;<code>\/<\/code>&#8220;), whereas the opening &lt;ref&gt; tag does not have a slash.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"Step_2\">Step 2<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Insert the text for the footnote between the opening and closing <code>&lt;ref&gt;&lt;\/ref&gt;<\/code> tags. For example:\n<\/p>\n<table class=\"oeru1 table table-striped\" width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<dl>\n<dd><code>&lt;ref&gt;<\/code>Text for the footnote or reference goes here and can include markup for &#8221;&#8217;bold&#8221;&#8217;, &#8221;italics&#8221; and links, for example, [https:\/\/oerfoundation.org\/ OER Foundation].<code>&lt;\/ref&gt;<\/code>,\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<ul>\n<li> Note, you can use standard wiki markup including, bold, italics, hyperlinks etc. for the footnote text.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span class=\"mw-headline\" id=\"Step_3\">Step 3<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Insert the &lt;references\/&gt; tag at the bottom of the page where the text for your footnotes, references, and\/or citations will be published. You should include a wiki subheading for &#8220;Notes&#8221; or &#8220;References&#8221; as appropriate.
