Module 0

This module will show you how everyday technologies can transform your teaching, even if you rarely use digital tools. You’ll see how basic mobile phones, smartphones, tablets, and laptops can boost your students’ engagement, improve their learning, and help you overcome challenges like limited electricity in rural areas or diverse needs in urban classrooms. If you’re new to technology, this module is designed to support you as a starting point, helping you build confidence and skills through hands-on examples tailored to Pacific TVET classrooms. You’ll discover how portable devices can spark engagement and motivation in your students, setting them up for success in their vocational training. When you’re done, you can earn a badge and start using these strategies in your classroom, or move on to advanced topics—by the end, you’ll feel confident bringing technology into your teaching, no matter your starting point. Start your journey to innovative teaching today!

  2. Identify basic functions on a typical smart phone, such as a translation app, a podcast, a game, and use them to augment classroom teaching.
  3. Identify applications that will work on a tablet and how to find and select appropriate apps to augment your teaching, for example using the ‘padagogy’ wheel.
  4. Identify resources that can be found online if you have access to a laptop e.g. build a lesson around a YouTube video or TedTalk, build a lesson around a streamed TV or Radio broadcast, find ready-made lesson plans, worksheets and activities e.g. at https://oercommons.org/curated-collections/612.
